Case Study
Day 1 People’s reputation secured as a steadfast bidding partner after client success in nUAS SPIRAL 5 bid
A major UK Defence Prime required rapid delivery of bid/capture for several tasks for Spiral Development Taskings under DE&S Future Capability Group (FCG, now Future Capability Innovation) nUAS Spirals and the DE&S FCG Human Machine Teaming (HMT) Framework, valued at £300m.
Background
Day 1 People (D1P) utilised their strength of experience in bid and capture management, to put resources in place quickly and effectively.
Problem Statement
Brought in at the latter bidding stages nUAS Spiral 5 – an experimental procurement under the British Army’s Robotics and Autonomous Systems Project, FCG was looking to procure 6 Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) with integrated Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML) software.
Our Approach
Our critical role was to provide bid management, review capabilities and a steady hand from the early red teaming stage through to bid submission. D1P quickly received documentation, were efficiently onboarded and were available to support the capture lead within a couple of days. We ensured compliance with the client’s internal business-winning process, supported all final gate decisions and proceeded to co-ordinate with the multi-national team to ensure all contractual deliverables were reviewed and submitted by the Authority’s submission deadline.
Our Findings
D1P support was fundamental to the client’s success in nUAS Spiral 5 and as a result, they were contracted to deliver the 6 UAS to DE&S, where D1P were asked to continue to support the lead capture manager in informing the client’s delivery team.
We received positive feedback, and subsequently we were approached to continue to support follow up bids from the Authority, including bid management for HMT 4.1, HMT 1.4, HMT 6.1b and HMT 1.14. Of these follow-on bids, D1P managed and won on behalf of the client, the UAS contracts HMT 6.1b and HMT 1.14.
Conclusion - Client Testimonial
“Day 1 People, who have been supporting my C4i & Cyber business for 3 years, have been flexible and responsive in providing very capable people when required, and standing them down when not, to manage my budget.
I have always been able to rely on them to provide high-quality bid and capture services from £1m to £100m+ opportunities. In addition to delivering bids, they have also carried out analysis that led to no-bid decisions which has saved money for C4i&Cyber but resulted in less work for them.
Further to bid and capture they are project delivery specialists who have been able to step in to lead the turn-around of a major programme and then stepped back to support its delivery when stabilised. We have a trusting and transparent relationship with them, underpinned by a collaborative approach.
Overall, I trust them implicitly to help me make the right decisions for the business and I look forward to continuing our strong relationship as we grow going forward.”
